Coaster vs Mini Bus vs Coach: Which Should You Hire?
By PakCoachways Team · · 2 min read

Choosing the wrong vehicle is the most common mistake groups make when they hire a bus. Too small and people are crammed in for hours; too large and you pay for seats nobody uses. Here is a simple way to decide.
The three vehicle types
Seat counts differ between operators and models, so always ask for the exact number of passenger seats. As a general guide:
| Vehicle | Typical group size | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Mini bus or van | Small groups, roughly 10 to 15 people | City transfers, airport pickups, small family trips |
| Coaster | Mid-size groups, roughly 20 to 30 people | School trips, office outings, weddings, day trips between cities |
| Full-size coach | Large groups, roughly 40 or more people | Long intercity journeys, big events, multi-day tours |
How to choose
- Start with your headcount. Count everyone, including drivers' helpers, teachers or group leaders.
- Add luggage. A group of 20 with suitcases needs more space than a group of 20 on a day trip.
- Think about distance. On long journeys, legroom, reclining seats and air conditioning matter much more than on a 30-minute transfer.
- Check the road. Narrow or mountain roads often suit a coaster better than a full-size coach.
- Leave spare seats. A few empty seats make the trip more comfortable and cover last-minute additions.
Questions to ask the operator
- How many passenger seats does this exact vehicle have?
- Is there space for luggage, and how much?
- Does the air conditioning work, and is it checked before each trip?
- Can I see photos of the vehicle I will actually get?
